URB ALT Sampler-Dos Is Here and it RAWKS!

Hola, Loved Ones,

Yup, I've been promising URB ALT Sampler-Dos for a good while and finally it's yours. The FREE album-only digital download is available on the URB ALT site right now. By weeks end it will be accessible from Amazon.com. So much work went into putting this compilation of cool indie and avant garde artists together. The licensing of the songs took 3 months to settle due to the inclusion of several large indie label artists. Trust me that it was well worth it because some great relationships were established due to that grind. I'm much appreciative of the folks from XL Recordings, Warp Records, Downtown Records, Mercer Street Records, Secretly Canadian, Carpark Records and the other indie companies that allowed us to include the beautiful work of their artists. It's easy to say "no" but "yes" is a leap of faith that I want to honor by using URB ALT Sampler-Dos to build more exposure for all of the incredible signed and unsigned artists involved.

Can I say how excited I am that the legendary Gil Scott-Heron is on the compilation? Me and some URB ALT folks had a chance to attend the Fader sponsored release party for his new long player "I'm New Here." It's such a moving album.

Alternative chanteuse Leila Adu is in the mix with a full band arrangement of her trippy song Train. It features some of the biggest names in the New Zealand musical improv scene.

What about the idea that Ikey Owens of Mars Volta graced us with a live track from his band Free Moral Agents?

Grizzly Bear? Is any group hotter or more respected artistically than these fellas right now? They released, Veckatimist, one of my top 5 albums from 2009.

Very excited about BLK JKS, musically intense rocker brothers from South Africa, being part of the fracas. These cats know how to make a seriously joyful noise.
