Its hilarious without trying to be and it gives amazing insights into the roots of American pop culture. Superior to the Miles autobiography. Jack Rummel really nails it). During this last reading, I had a scary memory: At the age of 19, I was riding in a car driven by JAMES BOOKER, Dr. John's keyboard genius, from Newton, Mass. to New Haven, Ct. They had a gig at Carnegie (sp?) Hall. I had hitched hiked from New Haven to check them out and they gave me a ride back. Read the book and you will realize why it might be scary had I only known. However, they were all very nice to me. Dr. John made sure I was looked after by a former member of the San Francisco Dolls)

Hello Doctor. So happy to see you selling your wares in this venue. I recall seeing an interview with Sammy Davis where he literally describes how hard it was to be an entertainer as he had to train to do everything at a moments notice. That was the age of the Generalist Entertainer. Thank goodness we are in the age of the Specialist Entertainer. Much easier to impress the public. Of course its also easier to be mediocre as well:-)

Yeah, Sammy's The Man. He really was THE complete, well-rounded entertainer. In the days he came up, you really did know how to do everything -- from singing, dancing, joke-telling to write a show and breaking down a set. I have a dream project I would like to do some day involving Sammy. Also, thanks for the welcome. It could be interesting hanging out here. Peace.

Hola, Dr. Snakeskin! Thanks much for connecting with us here in the URB ALT community. Sammy Davis is one of the greats (sadly under-recognized at this time) so your avatar caught my eye early this morning. Hope that you find much of interest here. Welcome! - Boston
