URB ALT is Everything and Nothing. Labels are a Box. Create your own Box

There too many to name on my end. I'm wondering what everyone else is feeling.

Of course, I'm digging it all. Some of the songs are really standing out for me for different reasons. "Four Drinks" by Pillow Theory I can't get enough of. Anyone who has heard these cats perform pretty much knows that they are a paint peeling band when it comes to guitar sonics and powerful vocal wailing. "Four Drinks" really features vocalist, Kelsey in a more pensive moment. You really get a sense of the true beauty in his voice and the musical arrangements. This song was a revelation to me when they performed it at URB ALT Fest 07. I was like "What the?!"

"Wake Call" sings to me. It's one of those songs that lulls you into it's vibration with a peaceful movement that subtly betrays the underlying tension. It feels incredibly organic for a song that primarily uses electronic sounds. That is not an easy thing to do. I'd love to see her do this live.

Nerdkween's "8 Years" is just beautiful. I've been listening to this song for over 2 years with no let up. I hope it touches you cats as much as it does me.

Now that's not easy...there are so many sound impressions that touch in different ways, and I'm generally inspired by it all as for me it's a music world I've been seeking for a long time.

Thanks you guys - it is a joy for me to hear that you dig "Wake Call".

Auntkeke, you know I'm a big fan of yours, "Wicked" is beautiful.
When I first heard "The Smile" by Stew, I was so moved and still am. The melody really gets me as well as the voices together - a song that embraces "SUN" happiness with a hint of "BLUE"
Otto Fischer's song is so deep and reminds me of some of my own ancient guitar songs. I also dig "Trojan" by The Nocturnes.

I loaded Forbes' "Black Starship" song into the playlist last week. It think it's amazing. I've been following dudes work for a minute and it just keeps getting stronger.

Nerdkween's "Icon" is very understated and cinematic to me.

sand and sea- free moral agents=composition and arrangement. it's movement that visually gives life to the title. the music runs almost by itself freely- the words anchor it. surreality.

wake call-mills=honesty and struggle

a place where love can grow- faith=the register of the vocals are beautifully rich and are not compromised. rare.

otto fischer-commanding vocals with a sweet melodic guitar.

"High-heel Shoes" by Oh My Goodness - The lyrics are amazing and I love the big change that carries the song out. I can see this performed by an orchestra.

Amanda Ray's "Must Be Love" is like a spy movie I've been waiting to see.

"Red Hot Man" by Blackbeard is is seriously intense. Y'all gotta check the band out live playing it. Always have a sweat sheen after the fact.

Want to draw y'all attention to "Impressions of the Night" by a cool artist called Dearling Physique. He's as much a sound designer/performance artist as he is a pop artist. I dig the atmosphere that he created in this song.

Also check out Milo's "Dirt to Clay." This is a duo whose music came across on Myspace a while ago. This song builds in some very intriguing ways. It's quiet but also very emotional. Check it.

Here are three albums:

"I-Robot" by Alan Parsons Project

"Black Vomit" by Anthony Braxton & Wolf Eyes

"Fly Like An Eagle" by Steve Miller Band. This is the 30th anniversary edition. There is one track I'm focusing on -- a '73 demo version of the title track. I like this version more than I like the version that came with the original release. It's bit more gritty, and the lyrics (which are strong, btw) are not hidden by the electronics.

I have a longer list that I can share later...

song currently stuck in my head: "dance indra" - ananda shankar

I uploaded "Acquarium" by Kaveh Ayatl yesterday. Dude is from Iran and it's interesting how you can hear the subtle Middle Eastern melodies that have influence rock much so much over the years. His is one of those instances where rock is not appropriating a cultural sound but houses the vibration of a native son. I dig this song a lot. When the Jacoesque bass solo enters about 3rd of the way through the song it really achieves a level of beauty.

I was already digging "Fig Leaf" by Jihae. After seeing homegirl jam out on the song at the last URB ALT I'm hearing it in new ways. This is the kind of song that Al Green used to sing so effortlessly.
